Detox is primarily thought as a treatment to alcohol and drug dependence, today, the term is also referred to a diet. This diet as the name implies, minimizes the amount of chemicals ingested, so basically processed foods, preservatives or foods with a lot of additives are not allowed. As mentioned alcohol, drugs and other harmful substances even smoking is not allowed. This diet emphasizes on organic foods, herbal foods, and water as the main liquid. The foods are those that contain nutrients and are organic.

How detox works

It depends on how long you wanted the diet to last, but it’s usually followed for 3 days, up to 7 days, or longer. Though it is not that restrictive as juice fast it is still a difficult diet to follow. It is a good idea to check with a doctor before getting into this diet. People usually manage the diet despite having regular activities such as work.

This diet is difficult to maintain, but it is one of the diets that yields amazing results very well. So the decision and motivation will rely on you. Consider this diet as a challenge and think of the major benefits or you can go for not too restrictive diets, med diet for one. Mediterranean diet food, although mostly natural food items, preparations are tasty in med diet so one can easily adapt to it.

The benefit

As mentioned, weight loss is one of the benefits of detox diet but it’s not the only one. The diet also allows the body to self-heal, it helps raise energy levels, stimulates digestive health, remove bloating, clear headaches and sometimes improve mood.
