Runner’s Knee Symptoms: Get to Know Them

Runner’s knee is considered an injury which is brought about by poor knee tracking that takes place when the quadriceps are tight and weaker than the hamstrings. Our quadriceps give support to our back muscles, and when an imbalance takes place, the kneecap will experience extra stress plus pressure. This results to rubbing severely against the thigh bone behind it. Some of the most common runner’s knee symptoms you may experience are as follows: pain beneath or perhaps on the sides of the kneecaps, crepitus heard when running, pain may start later in the day after you’ve done your exercise, swelling on the entire area around the knee, pain aggravates when running uphill or perhaps walking downstairs, and a lot more. Once you experience any of these symptoms especially the pain around the entire area of the knee, you need to submit yourself to a medical check-up. This is already an indicator so stop wishing it will just subside.

What is a Shin Splint

Shin splints sound like they hurt a lot, it doesn’t just sound like it hurts it actually hurts. Yes shin splint also known as the Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome, is the pain that occurs around or behind the tibia, or the so called shin bone. To put in a simple manner, it is an injury to that big bone in front of the lower leg. This usually occurs because the muscle or the connective tissue attached to the bone has been through too much pressure which usually results in tearing or the signs of pain on the site of injury. Usually this type of injury is manifested by those athletes that require a lot of running and abrupt stopping. Also people who undergo sports that apply too much pressure to the bone such as gymnastics can also have shin splints, about 15% of sports injuries are all about shin splints. So if you are a sports person then you better be careful.

Exercises for a Pulled Hamstring

Your hamstring muscle is located at the back of your legs. It is the muscle that allows you to bend your knees, and do things such as run, walk, pedal, and more. Most of the time, these muscles tend to be overworked, and end up getting pulled, or even more damage is caused. When you want to help revive a pulled hamstring you can start by doing exercise, with hard work and diligence your hamstrings will be in good shape again. So here are exercises for a pulled hamstring. 1.)Standing exercises. You need to stand in a flat surface, then carry two dumbells, then bend at your hips, but remember to keep the back straight, then lower yourself to the floor, then return to your normal position, do this at least 10 times. 2.)Seated exercises. Mostly it looks like curl ups but your legs need to be straight. 3.)Prone exercises. So don’t forget these exercises when your hamstrings are pulled.

When people get their feet injured, the two thoughts uppermost in their minds is how they can relieve the pain right away, and how they can get back to walking and moving around normally again as quickly as possible. As unsurprising as these thoughts may be, they may not be what you should consider the most important. Feet injuries can either be severe or slight, but in any case, any kind of foot pain requires rest, and especially for turf toe.

Turf toe, otherwise known as a metatarsal-phalangeal joint sprain, is an injury that rarely happens to those who don’t make their living from vigorous sports like soccer and football. The injury involves a sprain and sometimes a dislocation to joint of your big toe, when sudden and extreme pressure is placed on your body in such a way that the big toe joint reacts by extending past its comfortable limit. The worst turf toe injuries can mean that the foot will never regain its proper form and function, and that cases of turf toe can happen over and over again to the same foot, wreaking more damage each time. This is why the best and most important treatment for turf toe is rest.

Turf toe treatment is best summed up in the popular RICE method: rest, ice, compression, and elevation. Ice packs help to lessen the pain of a foot injury, while compression as well as elevating the injured foot like propping it up on a couple of pillows will prevent too much swelling. And according to health site Fitnez, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like Advil can help control the pain and swelling and should be taken when necessary. But all the ice packs, painkillers, and compression bandages in the world won’t heal your turf toe injury well if you refuse to rest, while even the most severe turf toe with or without ice and compression will greatly benefit if you let your feet rest right away and as long as possible. A serious foot injury like turf toe should not be considered similar to a sprained wrist or bruised ribs. The feet are responsible for moving us around, so any sort of injury to the feet will require abstinence from motion to make sure that the feet heal correctly.

No matter how pressured your job is, the obligation to make sure your feet and body recover properly from any injury is far more important. A doctor or podiatrist can help give advice and administer treatment to help you recover from turf toe as quickly as possible, but the best thing you can do to not just let your feet heal but also to prevent future cases of turf toe is to allow your feet to rest as long as needed.

There is an interesting tribe in the copper canyon of Mexico that stands by the name of the Tarahumara. These amazing people run virtually barefoot for hundreds of miles, on a tough terrain like rocks. How are they doing i, you’re asking? They are using a simple rubber or leather outsole tied to their feet with a leather strap they make from bodies of dead animals. They started using rubber though as it’s cheaper, using old rubber tires that ran out of use.

[use my photo if you wish: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/19179925/FreshBeetle/huaraches3.jpg]

Huaraches Running Sandals

These soles and straps are the huaraches running sandals. I started using them about a year ago and I am simply astonished by their simplicity yet very high comfort ability. They are by far the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn. They are very lightweight and sturdy, and thus giving me the full barefoot feeling I was looking for whilst still protecting my feet from potential injuries that are caused by modern ‘thingies’ in the ground – like broken glass and stuff.

I used the InvisibleShoes brand by Steven Sashel. He used to make the sole from Vibram soles but recently made a major improvement to what was already great – and started using another material as the sole. I haven’t used the new version yet, but I trust Steven on that one. For the sake of honesty, I’ll have to admit that he sent me a review pair back in the day, but I truly recommend this shoe nonetheless.

Advantages of InvisibleShoes Huaraches:

Comfortable.

Light-weight.

Giving you all the benefits of running barefoot.

Feet protection.

Price. Currently they sell for around 25$ or something.

if you missed part 1 and want to read: The Tackle please go here, The doctor / surgeon, a local lad, looks like a bit of a flash Herbert but he come highly recommend as a knee guy, “Drop you pants and sit on the bed” he say’s I get the feeling that he’s said that before. Then he start yanking at my leg, up, down, sideways, holding my leg down and say push into my hand. I can barely hold back the tears of pain from spilling out, I so need to punch him across the room. “Tell me if you feel any discomfort” he says in a kind of knowing way “a little” i respond trying hard to display my battle of Britain stiff upper lip demeanor, as we lock eyes into what could be called a death stare.

Yes I am afraid you have a torn ALC (anterior cruciate ligament), he goes over to his desk to get a model knee to show me what need to be done, meanwhile I pull my trouser back on desperately trying to regain some of my dignity. After a very detailed explanation of this ligament and that bone, my mind is singing ” thigh bone connected to my shin bone, shin bone connected to my ankle bone, ankle bone connected to my …. you know the rest.

Then whoa hold your horses big fella your going to harvest some what from my where, Don’t you just hate it when you hear the words Harvest in connection to your body. This sent a big shiver down my spine. He is serious, he is going to take a portion of my hamstring and fold it up a few time and this will be my new ACL. “Don’t worry you wont feel a thing” he say’s somehow he’s not making me feel any better. We complete the necessary paperwork and I am booked in to the fancy private hospital next to the park ( thank you, thank you private health insurance you have been fleecing me for years, now its pay back time ) I feel marginally better at this stage, we shake hands and I leave, I linger slightly on the hand shake examining those skilled hands and master fingers that will ultimately be holding the knife that cuts me deep, I am happy, well manicured just the right amount of squeeze in his grip and very steady.

The ice pack did its work but by the many knowing looks and quite head shaking i new the damage had been done, “son did you hear a popping sound when you went down” said the coach, was he psychic did he have a sixth sense, ” I did here it, but how could you have known” I blurted out almost incoherently, the pain killers were kicking in by know.

People always want to do better at what they do, and not stay constant or unmoving. They usually do not want to be just good at what they do; they strive to be better at it, if not be the best. This is a good philosophy to have in life, as it opens up opportunities for better things. Being stuck with just now and not moving forward do not present much opportunity for a better life. It is always better to surpass their own record, and stretch their limits to bring out the best in them.

This is commonly seen in the world of sports. People become professional athletes because they have the skills, and they are good at the sports they play. But, they still have to train hard and constantly improve and enhance their skills and strength, in order to stay on top of the game. They need to be constantly on their toes and never take anything for granted, to maintain their winning streak.

Players and athletes often go to rigorous trainings when they have matches coming up. They also have to stay in shape, so they have their own forms of exercises to keep their bodies in the best condition. They have to work with what they have, and make sure they perform at their best every time. Doing the same thing over and over might make them not appreciate what they do anymore, so it is important that they keep training, and make sure they have what it takes to win.

Like in volleyball, for example. Strategies for winning would include how they hit the ball and score a point. It would also include strategies for blocking and spiking. With these game plays and strategies, it is important that they have high vertical leap. The higher they can jump, the better they can deliver their best plays and strategies. This is the reason why the players have jumping exercises in their volleyball training.

There are also some training programs to help athletes jump higher. These programs include exercises that would strengthen their core muscles, and enhance their jumping skills. Their balance is also being worked on so they do not get injuries while they are playing. Of course, as part of the discipline, they also have to maintain good physique and body condition, so they are able to play their abilities as hard as they can.

People are fascinated by modern pieces of exercise equipment or fancy new diets with elaborate meal plans. But sometimes going back to the basics can produce the best results you’ll ever see. Running has become somewhat lost in all of the attention paid to new-fangled exercises or workout routines. But it will always be an easy way to get your heart rate up and an excellent exercise to improve your overall fitness. Best of all, it’s totally free and you can do it in any type of environment you want. Rather than making your workout routine more complex, you can bring it back to the simplest level and get better results. Here are some beginner tips for anyone who wants to get running again.

Set Reasonable Goals – everybody starts off incredibly motivated when they first begin their weight loss or fitness program. This can be a good thing to get you off to a strong start, but you also have to be careful about going overboard. A lot of people come out of the gate with too much enthusiasm and end up hurting themselves right away. It’s important to set reasonable goals and interval stages so that you can achieve them. If you haven’t been active in quite some time, don’t try to sprint a marathon in just a few days.

Get the Right Shoes – no matter how much they cost, it’s always worthwhile to get a good pair of running shoes that will support your body. The only downside of consistent running is that it can sometimes impact your joints and muscles in a negative way. But with a good pair of running shoes that match your style, you won’t have to worry about this factor. When it comes to buying good shoes, make sure to ask questions and compare different products while reading reviews.

Warm Up Right – there has always been a bit of debate over whether stretching should be a part of your running routine. Some people say you should stretch in order to get your muscles ready while other people argue against it. But warming up is important nevertheless and if you don’t want to risk it, then gradually build up your pace of running with brisk walking first. This will help you to build up your heart rate while getting your body prepare for more intense activity.

Good Posture – it’s absolutely essential that you maintain good posture throughout your running routine. Otherwise you can incur injury or develop bad posture along the way. You’ll find a good posture and proper technique will also make things easier in the end.

Hydrate properly – even when you don’t exercise, your body runs through an incredible amount of water each and every day. And if you happen to be embarking upon a fast weight loss program, it’s even more essential to hydrate properly. You can go with sports drinks but there’s nothing wrong with water either. In fact, you might want to forgo those extra calories contained in sports drinks if you’re trying to lose weight at the same time. And just as important as hydrating, make sure to give your body the fuel it needs in the form of proper nutrition. Stay away from high cholesterol foods that will make you slower and keep up your metabolism with healthy snacking.

Bring a Friend – motivation always becomes a factor of eventually when it comes to running. This is why it’s a great idea to find tips and tricks that will help to keep you interested. While you might want to embark upon your running routine by yourself for the first little while, you might find in listing the help of a friend to make it more enjoyable. Better yet, when two people are responsible for keeping each other on track, it really helps with the overall motivation.

Snowboarding is a good outdoor sport. But like all other outdoors sports, this sport is dangerous. Your safety will rely on how you ride down the hill. If you ride down a hill using an unfavorable stance angle, you are compromising your safety. To get the correct stance angle and to snowboard as well, you need to have snowboard bindings.

Snowboard bindings are attached to your board and you slip your feet in it to make you and your snowboard become one. You can control your snowboard with ease with the help of snowboard bindings. There are two types of snowboard bindings. The first one is a strap-on binding and a slip-on binding. The strap-on binding is the commonly used snowboard binding because it gives the snowboarder great control on his or her snowboard. The slip-on binding is easier to use in terms of slipping your feet in and out of it but when it comes to controlling the board, you will have a difficult time controlling it.

No matter what type of snowboard binding you use, you need to have it secured and on the right stance angle. To get the right stance angle, you need to try it out on a carpeted floor to get the results quickly. When you are done getting the right stance angle, check on the straps of the snowboard bindings. Make sure that the straps of the snowboard bindings are not too tight because it will be uncomfortable in your part and you might risk yourself when you snowboard.

Snowboarding is getting popular to teens, adults, and even children today. When snowboarding, always make sure to wear safety gear and clothing to protect you from the cold. Also, you should have a good snowboard binding so that you will be riding down the hill safely and easily. If you want to take a look at good snowboard bindings, you can check out Burton Snowboard Bindings. They offer good snowboard bindings that are durable and will really bind your feet to your snowboard well. They come in many designs so find the best one for you, ride those hills, and always mind your safety when you snowboard.

Having parents who are both active and sports minded, my brothers, sister and I grew up as sports enthusiasts. My father runs 5k marathons and plays bowling, my mother plays bowling and squash. Both my brothers play football and baseball and my sister plays badminton while I play volleyball.

We practically know how to play every basic sports there are but we prefer to play the sport in which we excel at. But being too active and sports minded has given us some minor problems. Both my parents have been complaining about sore backs and discomforts and so do my brothers. Having been examined by the doctor, my parents’ discomforts and complaints were mostly due to age and stress that takes a toll on their bodies, which was fairly common for people their age.

My brothers on the other hand had more serious problems. One had a sprain and the other a strain on their back. The doctor said that it was probably caused by playing football, seeing as how it was a contact sport. The doctor recommended that both my parents wear a brace for posture support. It would alleviate the stress in their backs and reverse the damage that wear and tear, not to mention age has caused to their back. My brothers needed back support braces to ease the tension on their back muscles and to help the muscles support the weight of their upper body which causes the tension. The back support brace devices would also help relieve the pain and aches and prevent further damage to the sprained and strained muscle or ligament.

It is a good thing my sister and I do not have any such problems for now and we both hope not to get any. But if we do, we hope that t would be nothing serious that a back brace could not mend.
